Jumeirah Beach Residence
In just a few years’ time it has become one of Dubai’s most popular neighbourhoods. Overlooking the Arabian Gulf, Jumeirah Beach Residence is comprised of about 40 towers that feature residential units, retail space and a number of luxury hotels. The area, which was developed by Dubai Properties, has become home to around 15,000 people, mostly expatriates. Its proximity to the beach and its buzzing café scene make it one of the most-visited places in the emirate both by tourists and residents.
Jumeirah Beach Residence, considered part of the Dubai Marina area, is perhaps best-known for The Walk, a term used to describe the 1.7-km stretch of retail space that occupies the ground and plaza levels of the development. During the weekend, The Walk is swarming with beachgoers and families stopping by for a stroll, a swim in the sea or a meal. The promenade offers more than 330 retail outlets including food and beverage, gyms, salons, furniture and clothing shops, bank branches, and many more.
Food outlets at The Walk feature something for everybody. Whether you’re in the mood for Italian, Indian, Arabic, Japanese, Russian, Chinese or simply a fast-food snack, you’re sure to find it there. Dining options also include licensed outlets such as the San Francisco-based restaurant chain Trader Vic’s and Italian restaurant Frankie’s.
Jumeirah Beach Residence is also home to a number of five-star hotels overlooking the sea. These include The Ritz Carlton, Hilton Dubai Jumeirah Resort and Sheraton Jumeriah Beach Resort, not to mention other big hospitality brands such as Movenpick, Sofitel and Amwaj Rotana. Due to their prime location by the water and proximity to shopping destinations, the area attracts large amounts of tourists yearly especially during the months from October to March when the weather is at its best.
For residents, the large development offers a number of choices in terms of apartment sizes, ranging from studios to four bedrooms that have views to the sea or Dubai Marina’s artificial canal. Jumeirah Beach Residence is one of Dubai’s freehold areas. The average price of a two-bedroom apartment currently stands at AED2.09 million ($569,033), while a one-bedroom flat is now priced at AED1.39 million ($378,447).
At present, the area is undergoing additional development. New projects underway include The Beach, a large retail centre that is being built right on the seafront by Meraas Holding. The shopping destination is planned to feature four plazas stretching all the way from the Hilton to the Sheraton and is scheduled for completion by year-end. Another undertaking by Meraas is Bluewaters Island, an artificial island that will have residential units, hotels, food and entertainment outlets, and what is planned to be the tallest Ferris Wheel in the world with a height of 210 metres.
One of the most recently-opened venues at Jumeirah Beach Residence is the Meydan Beach Club, a place for food, relaxation and entertainment. The club’s Café del Mar has become a popular new spot among Dubai’s residents seeking to unwind in the outdoor Jacuzzi that overlooks the beach or socialize with friends over drinks from one of the funky pool bars, while the DJ plays the latest chill-out tunes.
